Who else is starting to get tired of Cascade? I'd like to talk about other hop varieties in an APA.

I've heard Jamil say that he likes Amarillo for flavoring/aroma. What others have you tried?

I'm not tired of them, but I've also had success with Simcoe and Centennial in my APAs.

I have two APA recipes. One has cascade and amarillo in it, but the other recipe is made with only columbus and is far superior, IMO.

Simcoe and centennial are favorites of mine as well. Amarillo is also very good. I've made the same batch (Edworts Haus Pale) using all cascades once and all amarillo once. The amarillo batch was much better.

I have yet to use columbus for anything other than bittering. Maybe I'm missing out :)

Amarillo/Simcoe is a great combo! And I think the Amarillo creates more of an APA because its so soft, but the Simcoe really makes it pop!

My favorite hop in an APA is cascade/centennial, overdone maybe, but a winner nonetheless. The friends that drink my beer will tell you that my best APA is made with all Citra and WLP001. I disagree though.

My favorite is bittered with chinook (or columbus) and then flavored with simcoe and amarillo. Sometimes I will throw a small amount of the bittering hop in a flame out as well for added variety.

I just made an APA with Cascade bittering and Amirillo flavor. Tasted and smelled awesome coming out of the fermenter.

If you're tired of cascade, you could try a mix of willamette and cascade for a totally different flavor. Willamette, in my opinion, is too "earthy" to stand alone, but with amarillo or cascade it's awesome!

I love the simcoe/amarillo combo, too, for huge citrus flavor.

There are so many great hops out there. One thing I do is make a 3 gallon all DME beer and experiment with different hops and yeast then step it up to a bigger all grain batch.

Primary- Wet Hop Citra Pale Ale
Kegged- Sorachi Ace Pilsner
Kegged- 10 Gal Black IPA
Bottled- Berliner Weisse
Next batches- 10 Gal Oatmeal Stout, Kolsch
