I'm working on my first recipe, and I want to make sure I don't do anything stupid. Based on what Ive been reading, I think I want to use Cascade exclusively in the boil, and dry hop with some Centennial.

Anyone who knows this sort of thing, is that good?

Cascade is a good choice, even for a dry hop. Centennial is more or less like a Cascade on steroids, very floral and grapefruity, although with a higher AA% (less needed for same results).

If you are planning on using Cascade exclusively in the boil, I'd keep the trend and use it as the dry hop as well. Depending on the malt bill and the AA% of your Cascade's, I'd do something like:

1oz @ 60 minutes
1oz @ 15
1oz @ 5
1oz @ FO
1oz dry hop for 7 days

That'd be a good start, and you wouldn't have to buy the Centennial :p

Cheers,
Kef

5oz? That seems high. I've done other beers at near the same gravity with just 2oz.

EDIT: are you thinking 10gal? Because I'm thinking in 5gal terms.

You could use 2oz to get the same bitterness but with lots of late hops you will get lots of hop flavor and aroma.

Your choice.
