Hi there,

I see there are a few old threads from people in Korea, but what about now?

I live in a rural town, but I can get most of what I need on the internet. There are two main sites, goodbeer.co.kr and beerschool.co.kr

I mostly have been buying Muntons kits from goodbeer, and brewing them in a fermenting bucket that they also sell. The results are pretty good, and quite drinkable. My favourite so far is the Old Conkerwood Ale.

I might try grains next, and there are a couple of suppliers in Seoul who have a range of ingredients, and equipment. One place even has a kitchen where you can prepare everything and leave your brew on the premises. Come back when it's done. Unfortunately it takes me 3 hours to get to Seoul by bus.

The pub scene has also improved almost unrecognisably in the last few years, and is still getting better. There is a good range of imported beers in the supermarkets, and also in some bars, and some places have a good selection of imported and local beers on tap.

The latter point is the most interesting. The local macro brews are unremarkable, but there are some fledgling local brewers making delicious beer in Korea now, plus some contract brewers doing private batches. A couple of years ago it was all pretty bad, but they have got better, and are more widely available.

Anyway, anyone else brewing in Korea please say hi. I'm in rural Gyeongsangnam-do.
