Mill rye malt by hand????
Good god, nobody told me rye malt has the consistency of granite!
I can hand grind 10-12 pounds of 2 row in about 10 minutes or less, but I took the same amount of time to do 2 pounds of rye. That stuff is seriously hard as a rock.
Word to the wise for any other macho homebrewers that think grinding their own grain is cool to do.
