I know the feeling...
when I start talking about beer, my wife's eyes glaze over,
but the kicker for her is the mess... first I had a starter decide to get
too aggressive and end up all over the counter and the floor,
and last night I over aerated and ended up with about half a gallon
of wort all over the counter and floor. She will be very glad when
I complete my new basement brewing space.
No basements in Japanese houses and ****ty kitchens make for a even more pissed off wife than normal. Hopefully my beer turns out good because it will be worth it then.

Yeah, my wife is not the biggest beer fan in the world, but there are a few she does like, so my goal is to brew something that she enjoys, so she will start to appreciate this all a little more

I brewed on friday as well, but I had to play hookey to do it. In my opinion, it was wayyyyy worth it, 5.5 Gallons of tasty APA is better than work ANY day!:mug:

Well, we have a major storm coming in, so I might be in the brewery tomorrow, just for the heat. I have heatpump & a lousy fireplace insert, so no power means cold.

Brewing an all Simcoe IPA.

Outside.

In the snow.

Its cold, and I managed to squirt myself with my garden hose while cleaning my mash tun.

What part of Seattle you in?
I am in the south end, down near Renton, up on a hill, and it is coming down good.
as to the garden hose, I don't even want to think about that... youch

Was going to brew today but after a long session with the dentist this morning i was a little lazy and am going to brew tomorrow (i hope).

Georgetown. It was definitely a chilly experience, but at least I got my beer made and spent the rest of the day inside where its warm and I could enjoy some homebrew without freezing my nuts off. =)

my first double batch brew day went well. long and cold though. i hosed my foot early on and then continued to get my shoes wet throughout the day. there is still nothing i hate more than cold wet feet. the dumbest part of it was that i never once took 45 seconds to come inside to change my socks and shoes. you'd think i was stranded in the wilderness with 15 lbs of grain, a couple keggles, and a 40lb propane tank!! winterizing my garage with a new big door that actually closes flush with the concrete and adding one of those gas heaters that hangs from the ceiling is HIGH on my list at this point. though, i suppose i could just as easily move the whole operation to the basement for the same cost.

What would you do for venting exhaust from the propane burner though?

mash-in 9:15 am @152

ed's pale ale
8# 2row
2#vienna
.5# carpils

13.1 qts strike at 165 (preheat tun also)

7.25 gal into boil @1.030
5.75 gal into fermentor @1.044
66% efficiency sucks but is improving

I brewed the 1st half of my blonde doppelbock last night. Just started heating up the water for the second half.

Once it's cooled, I'll combine the two when the first half begins to kraeusen.

I'm going to start my Gose in a minute, its going to be interesting since its so cold outside. The beer will prevail!

if i moved indoors i'd switch to NG burners, and the area i have that i'm thinking about using has a window well. i would just convert the entire window space to a big vent fan. 100cfm should do just fine.

Just hanging out with Tim O and Mr Coffee out back at MBC, brewing on Tim O's rig-and drinking.

TimO just posted the pics at Photobucket-I'm taking my camera next time. I downloaded some and brightened them about 20% in MS Office Picture Manager. Two employees were the 'students'-I was just there for the beer....

The distillation is at MBC in an MSU distillation class ostensibly for fruit distillation but they also have an experimental Federal distillation permit to distill any type of mash. :D No chit. MSU also runs a biodiesel class there and the brewery boiler system is fueled on it.

The 10 gallon stout and the 5 gallon IPA were written on Pro Mash the day before.

Rex Halfpenny from the Michigan Brewers Guild was there and we sampled his 4 year old Blueberry mead (awesome!). We also sampled a cherry wine and a perry from Uncle Johns cider mill (they just started making wines), a HB stout from another employee, a 1 year old stout from Mr. Coffee (very nice!), some of the distillate, cut with half water as it was 190 proof/95% as bottled (unfriggin' believably GOOD!!:drunk: :drunk: ), and about 5 or 6 IPA's from the pub, all during the brewday...

For those that don't know, I'm Leo in the pics-I just try staying out of the camera range...;)
