I’m thinking about using a turkey baster to pull samples out of my fermentation buckets to take gravity readings. I figure they are food safe and as long as I sanitize it I should be good to go. Anybody use one for samples?
Possible to do. Clean and sanitize everything in regard to the baster. Don't use the baster for other things (example basting a turkey) and avoid getting liquid into the bulb.
Since Nov 2013 when I started. Same one actually. But I only sample at OG before pitching yeast, and then at FG when I keg. I'm not one of those SG watchers. I let it ride. Ride. Ride. On heavy metal.
I do. I am planning to simply things a litttle and get a refractometer for my SG, and still use the Baster for my FG sample. I bought my baster strictly for this purpose.
