It was a very nice complement spoken to my Dasher Brown.

Here is one from way back when
I don't remember if I ansewered it .. could have left me stipend (it rhymed - sort of).


If I may, this one come’s from a Passedpawn play
I was actually looking for something else on this day


Although the good PP plays it down

Molly was a brewer's wife, as faithful as the sun,
Brewer Bob, an abusive man, was Molly's mean husband.

Brewer Bob used black clay jugs to measure his brewing water,
and Bob demanded precision during mash and boil and lauter.

One day Bob sent poor Molly to the well across the moor,
"Lower down these jugs, my wife, and bring back exactly four."

Four gallons seemed a simple task, and Molly left with glee,
until she saw the jugs she took held exactly five and three.

5 gallons rich holds one jug, the other 3 gallons poor,
How will Molly return to Bob with exactly four?

She first fills the 5 gallon jug, then empties it into the 3 gallon jug, leaving 2 gallons in the first jug. She then dumps the 3 gallons out, and pours the 2 gallons left behind in the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug.

Again, she lowers the 5 gallon jug down into the well and fills it once more. She tops off the 3 gallon jug and then dumps it, leaving exactly 4 gallons in the large 5 gallon jug to bring home to her abusive husband.

To me it's not an answer that appears even after you know it

9 balls that each look exactly the same
One weighs different from the others... Heavier or lighter it does not matter
You have a balancing scale. Think of the pictures often used for The Hall of Justice scale

I'll give you a hint. You can put four and four on the scale . It's not going to get you the answer. There are to many vaiables with that idea.. Just know it only takes two measuring's to answer the question.

Let's just go with the heavy one

To be honest man, it don't matter son

Heavy or light is what you need to know

For this riddle.. heavy is the right soul

And that will answer the question you've grown

Think in terms of not odds evenly sewn

But maybe yet yes, there is an easy flow

It takes some threes which will be separated in two

which we will divide 9, nearly into two, and eventually one...

I'll guess at a water/alcohol solution. The more water is removed (the drier the solution becomes) the better wetting agent it is.

I believe the answer is a towel. As you dry things with it, it gets wetter.

Wow, a deeply thought out solution,
though not quite what I was going for as a resolution.
The beauty of riddles is that they will make you flip your lid
yet most of the time can be answered by a kid

The approach for the 9 ball problem was to divide into 3 groups and compare 2 using 0ne weighing. If we know whether the odd ball is heavier or lighter than the others then we immediately know which of the three groups contains the odd ball. If we don't then it takes another weighing to determine whether it is heavier or lighter. IOW it takes two weighings to determine whether the odd ball is heavier or lighter and localize it to one of three groups. At this point we have 3 balls one of which is known to be either heavier or lighter than the others and we can, with one additional weighing, using the same technique of subdividing into three identical groups, identify it.

If the number of balls is greater then we use the same approach: divide into three equal groups and use two weighings to find the group with the odd ball and determine whether it is heavier or lighter than the others. After those two weighings we have 4 balls one of which is known to be heavier or lighter than the others and the problem becomes "How many weighings are required to find the odd ball in 4 given that you know it is heavier or lighter than the others?" I don't see how you can do it with one so I believe the answer is 2 for a total of 4: one to determine heavier or lighter and 1 for each stage of subdivision necessary to get to 1 ball per pan.
