I am getting my Amarillo IPA ingredients in today (in the mail) and will probably brew in the morning tomorrow. If I decide to do a yeast starter, is there anything I can substitute for the DME? I do not have any on hand and don't feel like waiting on it.

P.S.- Just remembered I have dry yeast I can (probably will) use, but I would like to know the answer to my question anyways. Thanks!:rockin:

If I am ever in a pinch and don't have much extract, I boil table sugar with some dead yeast or raisins to get them the nutrients they need. I do this all the time to suppliment my extract (I usually use the late running from a previous AG batch).

But the thing you have to be carefulwith is that you don't turn the yeast into lazy glutonous fat asses by giving them only simple sugars.

So what you're saying is don't act like how the majority of parents in the U.S. these days handle their own kids, right? :ban:

another option is making a real wort starter (basically pitch the yeast into a small portion of your batch) and pitching the next day
