How much yeast do you pitch for the starter? Meaning, if you're making a starter for a lager then you need a much larger yeasts cell count. Say you make a 5000ML starter. Do you pitch 2 vials of yeast into 4600ML (so you don't go over the 5000ML) of "wort" to make your starter? Do you pitch 3 vials, 4 vials, etc?
As I understand it, a starter of 100Gms DME to 1000ML water will yield, roughly, a 1.030/1.040 gravity and stir plate will, again roughly, double the cell count of hte yeast vial/pack? If this is true then you would need to pitch 4 vials into a 4600ML starter in order to get a good cell count?
