I've been lurking for a while so it's time to say hello and introduce myself.
I started homebrewing in 1980 - at least that's what my brewing log book says. But work and other events caused me to stop brewing for about fifteen years. Looking at my brew log, I had 115 batches completed when I quit and a couple of ribbons from the State Fair.
There came a time here in Portland Oregon when there was so much really excellent craft brew that it just didn't seem like it was worth the effort to make my own. I think we currently have something like 35 breweries in the city limits. But pints are $4+ (there are still $2 pints around though) and it has become tough to pay the price. Then I rejoined one of the local brew clubs and in short order felt guilty that I wasn't bringing homebrew to the meetings. So, I dug out the equipment and fired up the burner. Roughly 40 gallons later I am hooked again on homebrewing.
Currently on tap is Cascade Harvest fresh (wet) hop beer (a 7% abv IPA) along side my Tres Hombres barleywine (10% abv). In the cellar aging is a new batch of Red Rider - an Alt recipe I have been working on for several years. This weekend I will brew an Imperial Stout. Pretty much everything I do is all grain.
I'm looking forward to learning from all of you and hopefully can contribute something from time to time as well.
Best regards,
