So I think I'm going to make a collar out of oak, and stain it. What would be the best way to fasten the 4 pieces together for the best looking finish? I'm thinking liquid nails, but if I get any on the 'face' of the collar, will I be able to completely remove it by sanding, or will it soak in and clog the pores and cause a bad stain job? TIA!

Mine is just on with silicone. Its sturdy as and shows no sign of even budging a year later and its easy to clean up after applying.

Does a great job of sealing it as well in the process.

Thanks jaja,
Actually I meant fastening the 4 pieces to each other (not to the fridge).

I used 2" wood screws, and they haven't budged. Wood glue would be stronger, but I wasn't sure whether I'd be happy with the location of the faucets, so wanted to be able to replace the front panel without rebuilding the whole thing. Turned out they were fine, so never made use of the ability to disassemble the collar.

Spend the $40 on a Kreg R3 pocket jig and you'll never look back. That plus wood glue will give you the strongest joints possible short of getting into more difficult woodworking like dovetails.
