Hi. Great site, I've been lurking for about a week trying to get some basic information on where to start and basic equipment required for my first brew.

Using a few FAQs, found my way to the Howtobrew.com website and have started reading about extract brewing.

Will post back when I have my equipment purchased and then again once I've got the first brew underway.

Welcome fellow Canuck! :mug: There have certainly been a lot of us joining up lately. Good luck with your first brew, if you're not already, you will be hooked soon! :D

Welcome, eh! Ottawa is a fun place. I used to have to work up there in the winter across the river in French country. I always stay in a Courtyard Marriott just on Ottawa side. It's across the street from Hooters and close to a Market.

I remember asking the hotel for directions to my client in Hull. He asked for the street address, and I told him is what "Rue something" (I thought it was funny). :D

Welcome! Glad to have another Canuck aboard! I live in Calgary now, but got my start in homebrewing while in Ottawa about 10 years ago. Lived there for about 6 years total, and sure miss it somedays. Nice town. Is the micro-brew pub scene any better there now, though? It was pretty bad in the late nineties.

One brew pub (clocktower) but we have 6 or so micros in the area now. To bad most LCBO refuses to carry them for some reason, favoring 438 different European lagers instead.

I lived in Uplands (in the cheap houses, not the mansions) in the late 70's and early 80's and went to Canturbury High and Brookfield High School. Ottawa is a very nice city.

You should put your location in your options so that we Canucks can recognize each other. We sometimes face shipping challenges our American friends don't have to deal with so it's nice to be able to compare notes.

Welcome aboard.

I used to live just off Bank Street within about 2 blocks of the Clocktower Brew Pub! That place is still going, eh? They had decent beer -- well, at least enough so that we drank a lot of it! I knew that place very well!

And I have to say, I definitely like the privatized beer stores here in Alberta MUCH better than those government run ones in Ontario and Saskatchewan (my last two provinces of residence). I like a German lager as much as the next guy, but have they never heard of a beer that isn't yellow? Either that or the beer buyers must all be German. LOL. :)

So do you buy your ingredients from Todd at Skinaney brewing in Dunrobin? Nice guy and definitely worth the drive.

The Hooters is no longer, although the talent at that location was disappointing.

As others have mentioned, the Clocktower is our local brewpub. I really enjoy their bitter.

We now have a number of breweries popping up, but again, the LCBO doesn't carry much of a selection besides Euro Pils.
