Do you guys remember a couple of weeks ago I posted about how excited I was to meet another woman brewer in a bar? Well, she called me for a "date". Yep, we got together at her house so I could brew with her. She made the recipe and I just checked s.g. and temps (and brought a sixer of my homebrew). Well, she made a sort of porter/stout thing and the o.g. came in at..........1.098. In her notes, I annotated something like "good God!". Very cool to have a brew buddy. Her kitchen was completely trashed when we were done- wort all over in a mess. I'm glad we were at her house- she's not married and doesn't have anybody to give her grief over the mess.

We went this weekend to my daughter's hockey games and I invited her to come with us and stop at a couple of microbreweries in that area. I love to drink beer and to have another homebrewer to discuss it with is awesome! (My daughter is old enough to drive us home if we overindulge).

She wants to go all-grain, and so do I, so we're talking about the best ways to do this. I'm so glad I met a fellow brewer in my little dinky town!

I did invite her- she is totally into the internet, so she just might be joining us. She's really young (at least compared to me!) at 27 or so and a great person to hang out with. I think it was Pumbaa or Exo who pointed out that the possibility of me finding a fellow brewer in the UP of Michigan was rather remote, as the population up here is approximately 5. Cool- a brew buddy! :ban:

That's great! I hope I can find a regular brew buddy, too. A few friends came over last time I brewed, but I think they were just interested in the novelty of it, not joining on a regular basis.

So what're you brewing next?

Looks like we're having a little get-together of brewers next month. Very much looking forward to it. Now, if it were a bunch of brewchicks instead of a sausage-fest, it'd be even better... :D

I have a Rogue Dead Guy clone going now, with pacman yeast. So I thought I'd do an ESB and use that same yeast cake. Nothing very exciting at all at my house, but Megan's next brew is a partial mash vanilla oatmeal stout. She's made some killer beers (literally- some 8 or 9% ABV) and some nice stouts and porters. Mine have all been mostly ambers or pale ales, so we've got a pretty good beer swap going.

It is a real blast to have a brewing friend. Have a good time with your brew buddies, bird.

Why do I feel the need for a cold shower right now? :D

Glad to hear it Lorenae :ban:

Hey Chairman, I dont have a "clone" for Dead Guy but I did make a Maibock type ale with my pacman that seems to be turning out real nice, bottled it on Sunday but was great at that stage, here it is

Is there anything sexier than two women brewing beer together? :rockin:

Would you please post the recipe?

You bet. Here it is- the smell is fantastic!

Dead Guy Ale (Clone)

13oz Belgiun Cara-Munich
13oz German Munich
7oz US Crystal 40 deg L

4lbs Alexanders Pale LME
4LBS LDME
(I substituted all XLDME)
1 oz Perle@ 7.5 AA for 60 min

1/4 oz Perle &
1/4 oz Czech Saaaz for 15 min
1 tsp Irish Moss

if you can't get Pacman then substitute
Wyeast 1338 or 1056.

The o.g. was 1.066. It's in a very cool spot- around 61 degrees in my kitchen. Fermentation was slow and steady, and I'm going to move it to secondary in the next few days.

BTW, my new brewbuddy called today. She racked to secondary and then dropped her 6.5 gallon carboy on her wrist and into the utility sink. One ER visit later, a few stitches, huge bruising on her hand/wrist/arm, and one less carboy. But don't worry- the beer is fine! She was just washing the primary when it happened. I was still at work,(at the hospital where she came into the ER) so I didn't drive her to the ER. If I would have been home, I would have taken her. I mean, what else are brewbuddies for, right? I told her, "At least the beer is ok". She agreed.

... in tangas ...

Finally...someone said it. Any chance of a video? :drunk:

EDIT: Great, now I'm an insensitive perv. Just read the rest of the thread. Ditto on the_bird's suggestion for the Better Bottle.

Oh no! That sucks. :(

That's sucks. Let's all buck up and buy her a new carboy (complete with carboy carrier) as a "get well" present. Who's interested???:)

I can toss a few dollars at a worthy cause, Ive busted a couple carboys in my day and it really sucks. Let me know how to contribute and I would be happy to.

She's going to be fine, and we did discuss having a plastic or BB primary. The irony is that she just moved here and is still figuring out her brewing set up. She has the world's coolest basement- 60 degrees all year long, huge utility room, bathroom, workout room, etc. She wants to add a stove down there and have that be her brew room. Instead, she brewed in her kitchen with my "help" and then carried a full 6.5 gallon glass carboy down into the basement by herself. After a week, she racked into the 5 gallon secondary, and THEN she broke the carboy! I was concerned about her hauling it down the basement steps when it was full but that was no problem for her! yet another reason to get a BB for primary, IMHO. I think she likes the glass primary (or did anyway!) so she can watch. She's a beer voyeur.

I think by summer we'll go all-grain. We can split the costs and equipment and we'll be saving some money. She only lives a few blocks from me. She even has a nice garage :rockin:

I'll tell her about your concern- she'll love that!

Basements rarely have good ventilation and Carbon Monoxide poisoning really hurts your brew quality (especially when you're dead).

Get a burner set up and brew outside and do what you women do best: force her hubby to carry the heavy stuff. That's the reason men exist, isn't it? Slave labor for our wives in return for the hope of sex.

Haha!
Unfortunately for her (or fortunately, maybe) she isn't married and she just moved here so no men lining up yet. Of course, when the guys find out she's a brewer and has an unending supply of beer, she's going to be really popular around here. :p

As far as ventilation, she was just going to put a regular stove down there and not do the all-grain stuff down there. She's got a great basement with high ceilings and great lighting and a great utility area. It's a thing of beauty! She can PM and do small boils with a regular stove. But next summer, I can see us sitting in her awesome garage with a turkey fryer in the driveway!

Puts the theme for Dukes of Hazzard in my mind. Glad to hear you have a friend. I can't get my friends into brewing (but they're into drinking my brew).

So have you told your husband yet that you're going to be moving in with her?

Well, sort of. He said it's ok, as long as I still supply him with my Left Hand Brewery Sawtooth Ale clone. He is getting stuck with the kids though........

Dukes of Hazzard theme song, here we come........:ban:

Wow - that's pretty impressive! I don't think my wife could do that if there were two of her.
