Hi,

I was wondering why BS is is always giving me a much lower amount of priming sugar as all other resources on the net. Here is one example...
Who should I trust?

Thanks,

Yes, they are slightly different, but with corn sugar the BeerSmith suggests 91% of that from the other calculator. I'm not certain that I could tell the difference once the beer has been poured into a glass.

The larger difference with DME (and in the opposite direction) probably comes from different calculations as to the fermentability of the DME, or assumptions as to the type of DME used.

So no danger in getting bottle bombs? How much corn sugar can you add without getting bottle bombs. I'm just wondering for security reasons.

I really don't know the strength of most bottles, although I have bottled some beers at up to 4 volumes with no problems. My only problem came from a batch of pepper beer that got infected in the secondary on the peppers before bottling. I put the bottles into some Rubbermaid totes while conditioning and ended up with a a few bottle bombs, one of which put a glass shard sticking through the lid of the tote! I think that I was up to 6-8 volumes at least on that batch.

I now use the Rubbermaid totes to condition all bottles in, although I have not had a problem since. Keep in mind that bottles with a scratch or chip will have a significantly reduced pressure capacity.
