Brewing first AG batch after years of partial mash. SWMBO requested Thunder Hole Ale from Bar Harbor Brewery (now made by Atlantic Brewery). They would not share recipe with me, but their website says 5.8 ABV, Nottingham Ale yeast, and pale malt, crystal malt and chocolate malts. I came up with the following, and would appreciate comments. I have added a bit of Victory to up the toastiness a touch, and some turbinado because my understanding is when you start AG you lose efficiency until you get everything under good conteol. On the safe side, I am estimating 60%.
10 lbs Maris Otter Pale
2/3 lb. Crystal 80
1/2 lb Crystal 40
1/2 lb Victory
1/2 lb chocolate malt
1/2 lb turbinado sugar
1 oz Pilgrim (60)
.5 oz Willamette (0)
.5 oz Pilgrim (0)
Nottingham Ale yeast
Single infusion at 154 (60 minutes)
Mash out at 170
Thoughts, fellow brewers?
