Thanks. I found it. I had to create an account.

As I suspected, my rep (Davis) voted Nay...

Come election time I will be voting Nay on his ass...

I sent my rep and email letting him know that I saw he voted against tabling each one of the comical amendments that they tried to attach and that he voted against the bill itself.
I said I would vote NO on him in the next election.

BTW, yes Davis voted against it.

I sent him an email last week.

Told him who I was and what I did for a living, what schools my kids attend and how well they do, and what church I belong to.

I told him I am a typical homebrewer. Asked him to vote yes so that we could pursue our hobby.

Even called myself and Alabamian...(transplanted Michigander)

Apparently he didn't care. Ha!

I figured Spanish Fort was a bit more progressive than that.

Mine didn't vote for it because he new he would have to go back to counting trees for a living. We live in the middle of the bible belt. Although I have to say the I'd much rather be from this county than Randolph and Chambers Co. Their reps showed their true colors today.

Color me skeptical. Will the Bible Belt notice if homebrewing is legalized? If it's not getting press, the only constituents who will care are the ones with a vested interest (i.e. homebrewers)

My representative, Faust, has a P by his name. Probably wasn't there. I am curious as to how he would've voted. Of course, he might've passed on it.

Same here for K. L. Brown. He lives about half a mile from me. There are a lot of home brewers in this university town, I've never heard of anyone against it, and everyone I know is glad to get some. I'll be sure to spread the word about Brown. He was one of the sponsors last year who ended up voting against it. There can't be a good reason for that.

If the Octomom moves here and runs as his opponent, I'm voting for her.

He owns the funeral home in town. I wouldn't be caught dead in there now.

Yeah, there were 23 sponsors of the bill last year and 6 of them ended up voting against it. There is definitely something fishy about that. How the hell do you vote against a bill you sponsored? That either makes you a crook or a spineless slug.
BTW KL Brown looks kind of creepy. I guess it fits.

Congrats to my fellow brewers in Bama. Which of you are going to be the first to open an LBS and become rich? :)

My thoughts exactly. I know there can't be any opposition to the bill from the populace around here, so spinelessness seems to be irrelevant. I can only imagine two possibilities: He either has the IQ of a slug to be swayed by the so-called arguments against it or he's a crook.

Wish I had the money to open up a LBS in Huntsville. There's already a lot of homebrewers in this area.

I havent checked the news yet this morning. Is everyone is Bama ok today? I figured the anarchy and chaos took a lot of lives after the passage of the bill.

What the reps envisioned...

Reality check...

Beware! The devil is in the homebrew.

Ha. Nice!

Does anyone know when this will be up for debate in the Senate. I want to make sure to email my Senator, but don't want to send it too early

So I ended up emailing a couple folks in the heat of the moment yesterday--despite being a non-Bama resident--and I got a very respectful email back from Wallace. He teetotals for religious reasons and will oppose all alcohol bills of any form, even if he thinks people will be responsible for it.

While I disagree wholeheartedly with his biblical interpretation, I can't begrudge him that. At least it's not based in ignorance about what homebrewing is.

Save that email and send it to his opponent come next election

The problem I have with it is twofold - and I speak as a very conservative Christian.

1. I disagree with his interpretation. The Bible talks repeatedly about drunkenness being a sin. It does not, however, mention anything about alcohol itself being bad. Alcohol is mentioned positively several times, and Jesus Christ Himself made outstanding wine for the wedding feast at Caanan.

2. I disagree with the policy of taking personal religious beliefs that have no other factual basis and imposing those beliefs in the form of laws. Those are neither the actions of a democracy or a republic - those are the actions of a theocracy, which our country most certainly is not. If the only reason you vote against the bill is your belief in the Bible/Torah/Book of Mormon/whatever, then you should abstain from a vote.

Everything can be related to religion. This is not an example of a theocracy. Wallace simply believes as many of his constituents do. If he did not, then he would not be able to be elected.

The fastest way for someone in Alabama to legally enjoy homebrewing is to move out of state. The longest method is to change people's minds and get a bill pushed through.

It will be a hard fight because there are plenty of people who misunderstand the bible's teachings. Thank you prohibition and the teetotaler movement.

I do not begrudge Wallace his beliefs and I respect him for being honest about them. I'm more leery of the representatives that would sponsor the bill and then vote against it. That smacks of lobbyist involvement and I will never trust a man who tells me one thing and does another. If I find out my rep is one of them, I'll be first in line next election to give him a big fat nay, too.

At least he is honest on that fact for the reasons and not just telling you to pound sound like some of the other representative emails we saw yesterday.

You mean there isn't one in Huntsville? Who ever opens one there is going to do very well.

There is a health food store that has a few supplies but not a legitimate LHBS. There also was this ripoff artist in Huntsville who had a online store called Kegkits that was basically taking peoples money and sending the purchase , if at all or whenever he got to it. That's a whole long soap in itself and I'm sure there are a lot of homebrewers on here that remember that.
So no , Huntsville doesn't have a LHBS and will be a ripe market for someone to open a legit store if the Homebrew bill is signed into law.

Surely you don't think we are sitting here waiting on legislation to pass so we can brew do you? We just wanted the bill to pass so our hobby isn't illegal anymore.

We jumped the biggest hurdle yesterday with the homebrew bill being passed by the house. I feel good about the bill making it through the senate because the 2011 homebrew bill was actually passed by the senate last year and was defeated in the house.
The majority of legislators that didn't like this bill were more worried about it generating no tax revenue for Alabama. It was more about money than religion. They just know they can mask their argument with religious dogma because none of their constituents want to hear the "T" word.
They kept bringing up "it's about the children" or "oh I'm just so concerned about the children" That is another cheap tactic they like to use.
What you saw yesterday was a desperate, albeit embarrassing, attempt to kill a bill that they knew was going to pass.

Mac McCutcheon did a hell of a job for us yesterday and I wish I could vote him.

Pearly Gates ( www.yelp.com/biz/pearly-gates-natural-foods-huntsville ) sells brewing supplies. Nice little shop.
