So I just kegged a hef. While it was fermenting I noticed that there was no airlock activity. I wasn't worried because I have done my reading. I took my FG reading after about 2 weeks and hit my numbers right on. So back to my issue...As I was kegging I noticed that I had forgotten to put the inner piece in for my 3 piece airlock, which explains why no activity.

Now the question...Without that piece would oxygen been able to get into the beer?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I wouldn't worry about it. The CO2 blanket on top of the beer as a result of fermentation will protect it to a degree. Some breweries do completely open fermentations and don't have issues. As long as you kegged it within a few weeks and it wasn't sitting without an airlock piece for several months, it'll probably turn out great.

Thanks. Those were my thoughts as well. I will know for sure as soon as it finishes carbing up.
