The water in my airlock has some colouring from the wine in the demijohn. I filled it just below the neck, so am surprised to see this.

I am new to winemaking, so wondering what could be wrong with it? I have added a campden tablet to it, just incase of any bacteria.

If this is primary it is normal, on secondary you have an had under an inch of headspace, this happens as barometric pressure and ambient temp change around the demijohn, not a big deal unless you have added oak chips and the airlock could get plugged.the first 21 days juice is pushing out, as suspension settles and racking occurs a good airlock is paramount using s02 mixture

The primary was in a bucket and the secondary is in a demijohn where this is occurring.

Maybe I’ll drop the level on my next batch and see if it happens. I have the wine just at the base of the neck. Once it’s not a big deal then I am not too worried though. Thanks.
