I read up a bit on a blow off tube? Can standard tubing bought a the homebrew store just fit the top of the s shaped airlock? And if i read this correctly it just gets placed into a jar with water and is covered? PLEASE HELP I DON WANT IT TO EXPLODE TONIGHT LOL

Just make your airlock a bit loose so if pressure builds up, it will pop off easily and not explode.

Your beer/cider will be fine, you can take the airlock completely out and leave the open hole and your beer will still be fine; relax.

I've never used a blow-off tube, but it's my understanding that it takes the place of the airlock. Hence take airlock out and tubing goes into drilled stopper with the other end in the water.

Thanks guys i took an old s lock and cut the edge off to fit the tubing on, its safely bubbling away into the water in a separate jar. I just didnt want to wake up to cider all over my parents new basement!

You can also slow the fermentation by lowering the temperature if you are able.

Don't lower the temperature now that it is fermenting. You may stall it out.

The three piece airlocks are meant to do double duty. A piece of hose fits nicely on the center tube with the cap removed.

I need to order them offline, my home-brew place only offers the s locks but good to know! I have my two jars wrapped in blankets for temp control... But should i keep em on for secondary stage? Just curious....

Secondary fermentation is much debated. One thing that is fairly well accepted is that temperature should rise towards the end of fermentation. I say leave the blankets on.

Also, on the 3 piece airlocks, some of them are completely open at the bottom and others have a + crossing the bottom. Either one works fine. I have both. I would trim that obstruction off if I used them early during fermentation. It doesn't take much. Nail clippers, pocket knife, etc.
