It seems many (majority?) people feel the smell of boiling wort is horrible. I actually love the smell and have been known to walk outside a moment to take it all back in full force again. I've even wanted to petition makers of hygiene products to infuse their products with this smell! Glade turned me down....

Am I the only one?

Maybe I should, instead of brewing one 5.25 gal batch, brew 5 one gal batches throughout the week! Hmmm...

I love the smell of a freshly hop dumped kettle of boiling wort. Unfortunately bees do too. I want one to fall in one day so I can call the beer the "mead killer". :D

Nice! Too bad I couldn't give two thumbs up!

SWMBO hates the smell. She got me a larger pot and propane burner so I can brew in the driveway. Win-win.

My wife is sensitive to smells and does not like the smell. I brew outdoors so not a problem. I love the smell.

She also does not like the smell of the grain and complains when I have a bag of milled grain in the pantry waiting for brew day.

At least she loves the beer (and me too)

My wife is not a fan of the smell either so I've been a propane burner/outdoor guy now for almost 2 years. However, we are starting to get into wine making together - learning some very basic things - and she even made 2 batches of cordial Sunday, so that's cool :)

Down here in TX it's hot and humid for far too long and there are bugs galore. I'd be concerned with sweat and bugs in my beer. But then I'd also lose the glorious smell of boiling wort! It would be a lose for me to be pushed outside!

SWMBO isn't as enamored with the smell as I am but isn't turned off either.

SWMBO seemed to notice how much fun I was having and bought equipment to make wine and made two fruit wines but gave out at the end. I've been meaning to take up where she left off (after dumping her finished product and a good scrubbing) to try my own hand at wines and mead.

Mine hates, HATES the smell of milled grain in the house. She always asks if one of the dogs was sick. She doesn't mind the smell of boiling wort, but she calls it "beer soup".

She does love beer, so I can't complain.

She was really not happy when I made a hot sauce with some moruga and ghost peppers.... I blanched the peppers and the fumes coming off that were... strong

I don't really notice/mind the smell of boiling wort, but I LOVE the smell of a hot mash, especially one containing mash hops. I love the smell of the milled, dry grain as it's being dumped into the cooler, I love the smell that emanates as I mix in the hot water, it just smells like "brewing" to me.

Boiling wort smells good to me. I'm not sure how it smells different than baking bread besides for the hops.

It never even occurred to me that it could smell bad till my mom made a comment about "that stink sure hangs around doesn't it"

Ah well, I like it just fine.

I did one mash (I forget the ingredients) that smelled horrible. The boil smelled great and the beer tasted great.

I love the smell of the grain, most hops, the mash, the boil and sometimes the fermentation. I usually don't like the smell of the yeast.

I also notice that the next day I will have times where I have the smell come back to me. Is the odor saturating my nasal passages. I still like it even when it is the next day.

I love the smell too but my wife and daughters hate it!! They even hate the smell of the wort when it's cooling. So I have had to make other arrangements to cool it outside.

I guess a DIY immersion chiller is in my future.

I love the smell too and don't get why so many hate it. But when my boyfriend comes home while I'm brewing, or soon after, he complains that the house smells like 'library books'. Library books?!?

I like the aroma of boiling wort...But, I like the aroma when I am mashing the grains better! FILLS the house and I(haven't asked daughter if she can) can still smell it for like 3 days afterwards!..LOL
