Does anyone use food grade agar powder instead of lab grade? I can find it on amazon for like 5-10$ for a couple oz whereas the lab grade agar powder seems to run at least $1 per gram.

Is there any reason not to use the regular food grade stuff for slants and plates?

It depends if you are culturing cancer cells from a line that cost $$$$$$ and trying to publish a paper in cell, or if you are a homebrewer, trying to save a few bucks on yeast :). Go with the food grade.
