Aeration via Autosiphon

Well, this idea was born due to my lack of aeration equipment, and also because I got sick of rocking my full carboy, just to get a minor amount of O2 in there...

Basically​ all I did was I took my full carboy, inserted my autosiphon hose into the bottom of the carboy, and just pumped away.

It created tons of bubbles throughout the wort, and completely mixed everything up much better than I could ever do by hand.

Also, fermentation seemed to start up in good time, and lasted for about a week with good activity.

Beer came out fine I'm drinking it now 😁

Does anybody else use this method or am I crazy? All instruments were sanitary of course.

Wow. I never thought of that either. Seems like a sound premise, I will try that next time I use my carboy. It's a 7.5 gallon really heavy beast and I hate trying to rock it.

I am sure this may be obivous, so you are just holding your autosiphon in the air with hose down in the wort? Sounds like a great way to aerate. I will be giving this a try next time myself. KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid)

You could even put a sanitary air filter in line on the hose and get sterile filtered air

I keep it even more simple than that: Put a large funnel in the carboy, pick up the kettle and dump in the wort. Seems to get aerated just fine.
For batches more than 5 gallons, I'd use a kettle with a spigot and gravity transfer to the funnel in the carboy(s).

I pump from my kettle to the fermenter and this thing creates a great spray action that seems to do a great job. I'll take a vid next time. It creates a horizontal spray that hits the side of the carboy with impressive force.

I just have a hose with this on one end and a quick connect on the other. Connect to the pump and I've got a fermentor of aerated wort in just a couple minutes.

That's a good idea. I've been shaking or splashing my bucket but this is would be easier for sure.

It really does make life easier. I'll even do it as the carboy is filling, just don't forget to take your gravity sample as it's filling
