I was told in a beer class way long ago that aerating cool wort was good to promote a fast start and aerating hot wort was a bad thing and would make off flavors. This bit off NB looks like she's putting the air to it pretty good during the chill. Is this hot aeration thing a wife's tale? Second, what do you make of this chilling hack?

Have read that hot side aeration is very bad. Have read that hot side aeration is a non issue.

But that hack makes for a messy cleanup.

Reaction rates of wort compounds with oxygen at warm temperatures versus cool temperatures are greatly increased. Yeast utilize oxygen in the fermentation process, wort compounds rarely benefit from them. Minimize oxidative reactions with wort to the extent possible, but provide plenty for yeast necessity. That's the easy answer any way.:D
