So I bought a nostalgia kegerator a little bit ago from a friend. All in all it stopped cooling. Compressor turns on and runs but nothing gets cold. I got some advice from a guy that works in HVAC (hes my godfather).
My question to you guys is, should I buy a mini fridge and use the tower and what not from this keg? Or, should i fix the kegerator?

Plan 2: If i should fix it can i get some guidance. I used the thermostat dial, i turned the screw. This thing just doesn't get cold. My second guess was maybe its low or empty of freon. I have no connect to recharge the unit. Any information to help me figure this out would be great!

Generally speaking, if the repair cost is 50% or more of the cost to replace, replacement is the best choice.
This does not take into account sentimental or nostalgic value. That can only be determined by you.

Nostalgia is the brand of Kegerator. But I understand what your saying. I just don't know if its even worth it or how to even fix it.

If the compressor is constantly running but the cold plate never gets...cold...the most likely scenario is loss of refrigerant. As virtually no fridges come with access ports any more those would have to be installed (saddle valves are easiest) just to pull a vacuum and verify there's a leak.

Even assuming you bring the fridge to the repair depot (and avoid road charges) you're looking at $100 or more just for that - never mind localizing the leak and repairing same. If the compressor seals are bad figure another couple hundred bucks at least (and probably more); if it's in the plumbing it may not even be repairable.

Yes, I would go with a new mini-fridge and transplant the tower and related bits...

Cheers!

Thats what I was looking for Thank You a ton! I have no experience with these kegerators or getting them repaired so this was a big help!
