Life happens and I forgot to add vanilla bean to a mead.... would vanilla extract work just the same? Add a few drops, call it good? Lol
 
Are you in secondary right now? Many people, myself included, believe that the flavor of most fruits and spices is best represented when the alcohol in the secondary extracts the flavor. Primary addition flavors are changed as much of the processing (fermentation) occurs then. It doesn't mean that those flavors are bad, they're just a bid different from the flavor you'd experience if you just tasted the fruit or spice.

So split that bean and throw it in. Taste test once a week with an eye dropper until you're satisfied and then rack off.
