Hi all. Quick question. I want to add oak chips to an AHS vanilla porter. Here is my plan. Looking for suggestions and critique as I have never done this before.

Soak 1 oz oak chips in makers mark for 2 weeks. Age open air or covered or does it even matter?

Then I will add the oak chips and the whiskey to the secondary fermenter and leave it for a couple of months
Does that sound good? Thanks

I would cover just to avoid evaporation. A lot will go away in 2 weeks. Other than that, sounds fine. I just make a tea with a couple cups of 180 deg water and put it in a mason jar for a couple days. Never did Bourbon chips though.

Also, 1oz of chips is not a lot. I'd bump it up a bit. maybe 2 or 3 oz assuming a 5 gal batch.
