I have a stout that has been aged in a FEW distillery Bourbon barrel. its very tasty and I would like to hand it out as Christmas presents. To make it extra special I bought some edible gold leaf to add to the keg prior to bottling.

a couple of questions.

1. what is the best way to add the gold leave?
2. will the gold leaf clog the blichmann beer gun?

Here are my ideas so far... I am thinking of mixing up a little bit of starsan and putting the goldleaf in and then dropping into the keg pre bottling day or boiling a small amount of water with the gold leaf in it (I am afraid the flakes might dissolve) and then keg.

anybody do this before?

Gold will not dissolve in the beer. It will just drop out. It will be a waste of the gold.

I've been wax dipping my Christmas beers the last few years. This year was gold wax from More Beer. It doesn't sparkle like flakes but you get, arguably, many more miles out of this option. Just one man's thought.

For starters this isnt glitter beer.

I am going for a goldschalger type experiance with the flakes. Trying to put a premier touch on something that is already pretty special. I was recently at the ritz carlton and they had chocolate cookies covered in gold leaf and chocolate covered fruit covered in gold leaf. Pretty high end stuff that I am trying to base this off of.

Good flakes work in Goldschlager because it is clear. I fear that adding them to a dark stout won't get you the same effect. I'd use them for something else personally but it won't hurt to give it a shot if you really want.

for all the haters out there see the pictures...christmas eve and finally cracked a beer with gold in it. far from glitter ...exactly what I was going for.
