Adding fruit to beer?

It really depends on the kind of fruit, style of beer, etc. Often, fruit is added in the secondary because folks are looking for a good strong fruity flavor. Do you have a style/fruit in mind?
 
Most people use fruit in their secondary. If adding whole fruit, freeze to both kill any bugs you can, but also to break the fruit's cell walls and let your yeast get at more sugars. Other alternative is to buy puree and just put it in. If you know you're going to add whole fruit, ferment in a bucket if you can, it's easier to add and get whole fruit out of than a carboy.
