Gettin ready to do my 1st parti-gyle, and am hoping to get 3 beers outa it like the monks. A strong, a medium, and table beer (and yes i hope to be able to drink this in place of water like the monks). I am trying to find the best prices on the bulk stuff i need. Has anyone dealt with 50pound sack? If so how are they. Dose ahb free shipping over $100 apply to everything? or are sacks of grain excluded? I also see that most gylers seem to use beersmith as it breaks it all down, any one know if promash will do this as well? As i have promash and not beersmith.

i've never ordered a full sack from AHB but i've had 50 pound packages sent for free... good luck on the three-gyle, never did three before i'll be curious as to what the third one comes out at...

Ill post when it is done. gonna be a few weeks 2 get the cash for everything i need.

Ok i got the promash problems figured out. the day/recipes will be change on the fly as i cannot predict efficiency(will be my 3rd ag). Anyone know if AHB does hops by the pound? If not looks like fifty pound gonna get my buy(might as well do grain and hops all at once). I figure if they have add in BYO they cant be crooks can they?

Just w8tin on my red currants to be ripe. hopefully 1-2 weeks. grain absorbtion? if anyone wants to answer. Is there any more grain absorbtion after the initial mash? trying to get a total water bill worked out.

date for brew is set. Aug 7th. will hopefully be a brewathon. I have my 3 planned. my brew partner wants to do his root beer that day. might have another person showing up with his rig and doing something as well. will be great to have 5 beers going in my driveway.

i've tried a 3-brew with the same grain. the first was 1.078, the second was 1.037 (or thereabouts), and the third was around 1.012... before fermentation. fermented the first and second. watered my hedges with the third runnings. they liked that little bit of sugar...

how big was your grain bill lumpher? i plan on having to do some tweeks to each beer. have wheat dme and oats for 3rd runnings turning that into a blueberry wit.

Starters were made. tomorrow is the big day. will try and remember pics and post along the way. spending some of today making room in the garage for everything in case it rains like they are calling for.

unless something changes 1st runnings will be a cherry quad. 2nd runnings dubbel ish with red currants added. 3rd runnings blueberry belgian wit.

all gravities close enough to what i expected. 1st runnings after boil 1.106. 2nd runnings after boil 1.078. 3rd after boil 1.048. will post the few pics and more specifics later. wow waas it waaaaaaay hectic for awhile. got the 4th brew of the day going now. an oldschool rootbeer.

root beer ready for the chiller. 1st runnings already bubbling happily along in the fermenter.

a few pics are available. if anyone shows interest ill post what i have. based on my average attenuation and my og's the beers will end as follows. blueberry wit 4.0%. red currant dubbel(ish) 7.75%. kirsch 12.5%. am happy all in all with results. thanks to the many gyle posters who came before me(revvy at the top of the list) your work and postings helped me plan and have the proper extras on hand to accomplish what i wanted.(well close enough that I am happy)

Ill check those pics. No plans to do something like this soon but someday hell yeah.

I'd love to hear what you did, what your recipes were, etc. Sounds like a fun idea, I might try it for my next batch. 'Grats on a successful brew day.

60qt tun and mash paddle. did not have much room left 34lbs of grain.

dodging rain so i set up 3 burners in the garage.

I have the same equipment pretty much. That's crazy seeing the tun filled. My 10 pound grain bills use like a quarter of the volume heh.

yeah thats my normal bill 10-13lb of grain and it doesnt make a dent. got nervous for a bit was not sure if it would all fit. lol then said heck i coulda added another lb or 2. gotta work on my manifold a bit b4 next brew day. reaching into 34lb mash to reattach manifold was not very fun.

I use a braid that I reinforced with a notched tube. It's been a beast so far. No big grain bills yet. The nice thing tho. The last grain bill was only 7 pounds and it still worked great so no I'd say it's not too big. I defo have an interest in barely wine and RIS so the bigger the better.

base grain bill
26lb 2row pils malt
2lb munich malt
2lb special b
2lb crystal 60
2lb aromatic.

149degree 90 min mash 1.30 ratio.

1lb dark candi sugar added to 1st runnings. 1g of cherry juice to be added to the secondary. 4 anise stars for 60

1lb dark candi sugar added to 2nd runnings. 5 anise stars and .5 oz licorice root for 60 min. 3.5 lb of red currants added to secondary.

1lb flaked oats, and 1 lb of wheat dme added 2 3rd runnings. 1.5oz orange zest and .4 oz corriander 10 min. 4lb of blueberries going in secondary.

blueberry wit was nice. gonna make that again someday as a beer by itself. ended up at like 3.5-4% and is all gone. Quad ended up at 12.7% I love it as do most of my friends. Have been told it is a way better cherry quad than omegang's three philosiphers only 1 case left. the dubbel with red currants well i cant tell u. it is still in the secondary. I have had so many terrible family issues right now that i hav had to ignore it for now. I am hoping to keg it this weekend. what else would you like 2 know? will help in any way i can.
