A moment of silence please

This may just be the end of my homebrewing. I have a daughter coming next month and along with that i got my hours cut at work. The first thing to stop is the most fun of them all, brewing amazing beer. I sent my last eMAW a week ago, have one last trade the end of this month and thats it for buying beer or ingredients to make it. Im not popular on this site at all, but figured this is the only place that would understand my sadness for giving it up (for now). Brewing beer will be missed but never forgotten!

Definitely changes things, but it is awesome.

Unless you need to sell stuff, I'd just hang it up for a while. They grow up quickly. (Pretty cliche, but it's true).

Hey I took about a 7 year brewing break with kids being a major contributing factor for it but I'm back and it is more fun than ever. Never say never. Hopefully your break won't be as long as mine though.

kids are expencive and alot of work, you wont have time or desire to do anything for the first 6 months anyway

after that, who knows. a batch is only about $25-40, since you have all the gear already.

Not sure what your employment situation is, but is a different job out of the question?

You may be surprised that you're worth more than your current employer is paying you.

I had the same issue. I found that putting nothing but gift certificates to the fermentation store on my Christmas and birthday lists got me through. Having friends buy the ingredients in exchange for half the beer helps too

I was in that position for some 6 months at least. Finally was able to refinance the house. Saved some 30% on monthly payments, so now I can brew at least once a month again. My kids are all grown though. So you'll get there again...never say never...

Once that baby is born all else will come a distant second. Be assured that all the enjoyment gained from brewing will be multiplied ten times in the joy you will get from your child. Congrats!

And, soon you will have a new brew partner. They do grow fast, cost a ton of money and take most of your time, but you will never think twice about it after they get here. The time and money thing always seems to work itself out, as well. If brewing is important to you, you will make it happen, somehow. Maybe not as often as you do now, but you never know.

You don't realize how lucky you truly are, yet. Enjoy it!

Hang on to your equipment just for your own sanity. Knowing it'll be sitting there waiting for your return will be a comfort with early morning feedings and such stuff.......

I wouldn't abandon it just yet. The first few months may be hectic, but you might still find time and funds here and there to brew.

Scale back to smaller batches, scrounge for sources for inexpensive ingredients. I buy my malt from a local microbrewer at $25 for a 50 pound sack of 2 row. I top crop every brew. A few pounds of hops can go a long way, and you can pick them up from Yakima or some other online supplier........ who's got hops you can harvest and freeze??? I have so little into each 2.5 gallon brew, it's laughable!!

I don't know how old you are, but more time off work when a new arrival comes is a blessing. Enjoy. I gave up brewing for 10 years after the first was born. It will always be there to come back to.

I really appreciate all the kind words from everyone on here, Some of the kindest people in the world are on here and you all have given me a glimpse of hope! This is my first child and maybe not my last (going for a boy in the future...distant future seeing im only 24 and have time I'll take a break and see where i can fit some economy brews in once the baby is here and my bills are in order.

Brew on everyone and post more beerporn, i need more of that in my life!

My hours at work got cut 20hours per check which left me cutting close after bills. Once i make some lifestyle changes hopefully i'll do a brew day every couple months. I have 3 vials of yeast sitting in the fridge so hopefully they last.

I am a little worried that i messed my equipment up with my last brew. I made an apa with Brett B trois and heard that can infect future brews, I might have to stick with saisons or something.

Congrats on the new arrival! You'll remember the birthday of your first forever...greatest natural high I ever had. Beer is cool, but family is forever.

Pick up a part time job or start a service company with your spare 20 hours. Figure out what you're good at and enjoy doing and make a business of it. Network with friends and business acquaintances for ideas on how to supplement your income. Parents can be quite creative when it comes to feeding an extra mouth. Friends can and will help support your new venture if you ask them.

Ive heard that and ive also heard others that just clean and sanitize correctly and have no issues. I mean its not some super strain that cant be killed. Just follow proper sanitation and you should be fine.

My stuff stayed in storage for a while. Life gets hectic at times, especially with kids. Everyone needs a hobby. If you love brewing I guarantee you'll be using that equip again. Congrats on the rugrat!
