a list of hop and malts etc, and what flavors they give?

is there like a list showing what kind of flavors the hops and malts give? So for a newb like myself, if I wanna add stuff to some extract kits to give it a little change in flavor? I'm interested in dry hopping but I have no idea what flavors different hops give. Thanks!

As far as hops go, the best resource is yourself. Go buy some beers that are popular here on the boards and see how they taste to you, what you like and what you don't like. Then look the recipes for them up on here and see what hops are in them. This is what I've been doing recently and I feel like it's a lot of help.

+100. Explaining the taste of different hop varieties in words is extremely difficult at best. More often than not impossible. Many craft beers advertise exactly what hops they use. Your best bet is to look for single-hopped beers... or at a minimum those that use a single variety for late kettle additions, aroma, and/or dry-hopping.

Also, get yourself some brew software, like Beersmith.

It has lists of malts/hops/other things, a description of what they do/taste like/smell like/etc, and typically a little hint about what types of beer they are best used in.
