A few questions about my second batch

Just brewed my second batch last night with the girlfriend (she was interested in learning).
It was a bavarian wheat kit that I added coriander seeds to. We crushed them up as much as we could, but that was exhausting...I hope it didn't need to be too finely crushed. A pepper grinder or something similar would have helped and I'll probably get one for next time...but I'm hoping a lot of the seeds will just dissolve in the primary? Because I didn't filter them out on the way into the bucket.

Which leads me to my second question. I had bought a wire mesh filter that I intended to put over the primary while I poured the wort in. However, while I was boiling I just set the filter in a bucket full of sanitizer. Well, apparently the type of metal on that thing rusts quickly because the water was slightly red colored and the filter had what apparently looked like rust stains on it. I opted not to risk using the filter and just poured in all the wort, seeds/hops and all. My question is, since this was my sanitizing bucket...would that "supposed rust" in the water cause problems with anything else I had dipped in the water to sanitize? I dipped things in, but then rinsed them off just in case there was any residue.

Other than that...everything else went smoothly. Just waiting for fermentation to start :mug:

I think you did right. There probably wasn't going to be off flavors since any residual rust would have been small, but I'd have rinsed.
Actually I probably would have abandoned the sanitizer all together and whipped up a new batch of it.

Still I think you'll be fine.

You should be fine. I use a spice grinder on my coriander seeds. I have only tried it once and that batch is still in primary. I have read of people using a pepper mill (clean) for the coriander also.

The seeds aren't going to dissolve, but you can just rack to secondary without them. I grind the seeds up in grain mill but I think a pepper mill would work great.
