Am i going to get the same ABV using LME as i would using sugar,
i was thinking 1.2kg LME and 300g of sugar to a 1.7kg coopers stout. i want the mouthfeel taste but also want a stout with a kick. probably over 5% any suggestions for my next batch? NEWBIE

LME will not ferment out as completely as sugar. But too much sugar will make your beer thin and maybe cidery. Looks like you are using 10%? I think it will be okay, but I would consult How to Brew by Palmer.

Everything I've read about using sugar in extract brewing suggests that, unless you're brewing a belgian beer (saison, dubble, triple, quad, strong; Bier de Garde?) you should try to replace the sugar with malt extract.

I'd suggest you make your Coopers kit by following the instructions, and next time look for a kit or recipe that has a starting gravity around 1.065.
