I built a fermentation chamber with a fridge, unfortunately it seems my fridge is too small for the chamber and cannot keep out the heat enough.

I have a brew day tomorrow and am looking at a fermentation temperature at 74 degrees.

What will the effects be? Slight more ester and fruity taste, or disastrous consequences?

The beer is needed for an event, so I don't just wanna "wait and see" as an experiment.
 
Im using East Coast White Labs Ale yeast and we're talking about primarily Maris Otter, a bit of torrified wheat and carahell. Using Citra, Centennial and Cascade.
 
You should be fine as long as that is the actual BEER temp. If that is the AMBIENT temp, then you are actually looking at a fermentation temperature the low to mid 80’s, which will probably be too high.
 
I have used a small fan (like what you put on your night stand) and just had it blow on the fermentor. No towel, water, etc and it helped a few degrees. You can also do the swamp cooler routing if you want as well.
 
74F is not that bad, but as pointed out above, that should be the actual temperature inside the fermenter, and not the enviroment. Either way, you will probably get more esters and some more tartness.
