I bought a high quality SS 6.5 gallon stock pot. 38$ at Winners -- they have another one sitting there.

Is this small for all grain boil for 5 gallon recipe? I was think of buy the other one and converting it to be more beer boil friendly. Any ideas what I could do with it? How tight does seal have to be for a fermenter?

Yes, it's small. If you want to do all-grain boils for 5 gallon batches, you'll want a pot that can contain 7 gallons at a rolling boil. That often means about 7 gallons to the handles which are usually a couple of inches from the top.

You could use it for a fermenter. It doesn't have to be a super tight seal, although if you wanted one you could just add a rubber gasket around the outside. And you'd want to make a hole for an airlock/blowoff tube, of course.
