Looking for input on the little 5 liter mini-kegs like this: http://www.amazon.com/Home-Brew-Ohio-Mini-Keg/dp/B0064OGVOK

AS a newbie 1 gallon brewer, this is interesting to me. However, I gots me some questions:

Can you naturally carb in this? Just add the priming sugar same as a load for bottles?

If I put a full gallon of beer in this, once cracked open for the first beer, do you then have to drink the whole thing in a few days, or will it act like a real keg?

Anyone use the mini kegs? Any pitfalls for the new brewer?

I have looked into this also and yes you can carbonate in them. I don't know if you need a special plug but you do need a special tap for them. You can either build your own or buy it online. They come with little co2 cartridges to dispense the beer.

Heres a link to a mini keg tap

I use these all the time , the one you are looking at comes with a tap on the bottom, I use 3grams per litre to carbonate and I use a mix of the bungs shown (for use with mini keg beer tap) and a 2 piece bung that you can crack to allow air in to flow the beer, ( normally black and red which are around £0.50 in uk) if you use the external mini keg tap then the beer will last for a while, although I have never managed to leave long enough to find out how long , but you are not letting air in then it will keep, I use the vented bung when I know I am going to use the beer within a few days, I do also use the mini keg tap and co2 when filling with bright beer( ie beer from a big keg transferred for use at a party say)
I have a mix of these ( around 10) and 40 pint kegs, I use the mini kegs for storing ready for bbq's and parties etc and the 40 pint kegs for constant use beer. Hope that helps
