Hey guys,

We suffered a catastrophic flood at our house this last week. Everything will need to be replaced. I had a keezer get dumped over and covered with water. Insurance will cover the cost of the keezer and taps, but my question is... is the beer ok. I don't think the water could have gotten inside the pressurized kegs. Let me know what you think?

I think you answered your own question. Water couldn't have gotten in pressurized kegs. So, are they still pressurized? If so, I'd have no problem drinking it.

That's what I was thinking as well, but wanted to get a couple of confirmations. Flood water is contaminated and very dangerous. Just a little freaked out. Thanks.

Yeah, I saw on the news all the misery all you guys were going through with the weather. My condolences to all that lost family and property.

I don't think any of your non electrical keezer parts would have to be tossed. Clean and sanitize and Bobs your uncle.

I don't mean to laugh at you, but your whole house is flooded with 4 feet of water and your reaction is " Oh CRAP! My BEER!!"

Sounds like his priorities are in order to me.:tank:

Beer is going to be a big help dealing with the aftermath.

I would wash it down good and sanitize the posts and have a beer. Now if it tastes bad toss it but you should be ok.

I feel for you. I watched my drain back-up last week & fill my basement with a few inches of water...couldn't even imagine 4'! Plus, my sump pump was discharging all the water into my already flooded backyard & it all ran right back into the house thru a poorly sealed window.

The first thing I grabbed as we took everything from the basement into the kitchen was my carboy filled with a barleywine that I've been aging for the past 3ish months.

The flood happened almost 7 days ago, and I just got around to posting today. But you're right upon seeing my keezer upside down in the middle of my house (keezer stored in garage) was "Oh, Crap, My beer!!!" :)

Fortunately, we have flood insurance so everything will get replaced. Unfortunately, I had to dump 5 gallons of Heavenly Scourge IPA, and 5 gallons of a strawberry blond that were fermenting. :(

sanitize everything very well first!

My mom lives in Springdale... nasty weather this year!

You're right. We had a record snowfall this year and this crazy flood. The flood came on so quickly that many of the garage doors were crushed in because there was 4 feet of water outside and 3-4 inches inside. That I thinks is what blew my keezer through the door into our house and down the all. I also found items from the garage in the back bathroom of our house.

20 inches of snow marked by the level on a few kegs:

Those taps are no good now and should be considered HazMat. Please send them to me to be properly disposed of... :D

Glad you have proper insurance. As long as everyone is ok, things can be replaced. Here's one for you! :mug:
