Good Morning All.

If you have a gravity system do to drain the Boil Kettle in to the FV under gravity?
Do you use a filter of any sort at the outlet to stop bits of hops or other crud getting into the FV?
How do you stop the filter blocking and cutting off the flow into the FV?

Thanks Aamcle.

Methods abound, none perfect. Whirlpooling gathers hops etc. at the center of the kettle, reducing transfer via an edge pickup tube. Alternatively, a perforated false bottom (usually with a center pickup tube) filters out some stuff. Another alternative : "hop stopper" (shaped stainless mesh) can protect the pickup from hops. Finally : you can reduce transfer of solids by stopping the flow early, sacrificing some wort (presumably overbuilding your recipe accordingly).

Cheers.

No problem, I'm familiar with those methods but is a pump required to drain the kettle? I don't think it is but I'd like to be sure.

Thanks aamcle
