Doesn't look that active but I've never used lager yeast before. I pitched it in at cold temp and then stuck it in my 50 degree cellar. I'm only really using it because it's too cold for ale.

Thoughts? Think it'll go dormant? What should I expect to see?

Thanks interbrewers

You definately should have made a starter. Expect a long lag time.

No he shouldn't have made a starter with a dry yeast, but he should have rehydrated it and pitched two packages.

This is a pretty good strain, so it might finish for you. But down the road, definitely pay some attention to your pitching rates.

No need to make a starter with dry yeast, supposedly it is harmful.
2 packets would have been better, but at a little warmer than usual with a couple of months time will likely do the trick. In a month or two when the weather gets warmer you'll have a natural diacetyl rest too.
Don't expect too much out of it, though. It'll still be beer. I hope it turns out for you.

It's not that it's necessarily "harmful", it's that it's usually easier/cheaper to pitch multiple packs vs making a starter ON TOP of dry yeast already being extremely viable straight out of the pack.

But agreed that OP definitely under-pitched.
