I am putting together a recipe for a 3 gallon ddh neipa . I will be using el dorado, azacca, and Citra in a 50/25/25 ratio. I will be doing only whirlpool and dry hop additions . My question is on the amount of hops I should use, I plan to do a 30 min steep at 175 deg and then dry hopping 3 days in and then again at around 10 days. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

what is the OG of the beer? if the beer is at least like 1.065 or 1.070 (or higher) i would do at least 1 oz/gal in the fermenter and you could go to 1.5 or even 2 if you want. if it is lower gravity, too many dry hops can make the beer seem really thin IMHO. i usually use older hops and cheaper varieties that i still like a lot in the hopstand and always use 1 oz/gal.

1oz per gallon total,or 1oz of each hop / gallon

i'd start with 1oz of total hops / gallon and see what you think. i don't mind wasting hops if it means that much more hop flavor, but sometimes adding more seems to make the beer less delicious. hard to know for sure. it should be really good regardless of other variables if you use 1 oz of total hops / gallon in the hopstand and dry hop though. so, for 3 gallons of wort, dump in 3 oz total in hopstand and close to 3 oz total in the dry hop.

Makes sense , that’s pretty close to my last IPA. Thanks man... if doing a double dry hop would you split the 3oz over the 2 additions or 3oz per dry hop?

I did a 3.5 gallon batch recently using El Dorado, Mosaic and Citra (in equal portions).
I used .6 oz of each variety at 30 min, 0 min, 3 days dry and 10 days dry (plus a splash of a neutral bittering hop at start of boil for a tad more IBUs). All told that worked out to 7.2 oz of hops.
It's pretty close to what stickyfinger recommends.
I was very happy with the end result.

Cheers!
