I need 3 of the 3/16" ID barbed swivel nut. Find at Northern Brewer and Mid West Supplies. However, I really prefer to avoid purchasing either of them.

This is for attaching a 3/16" beer tube to the black beer QD.

I've looked and looked without success. Any leads on where to find the barbed swivel nut?

Thanks.

Even with the bevseal ultra I can get it over 1/4" barbs. I like 1/4" barbs best anyway because a 3/16 barb would have nearly a 1/8" ID so you get a short burst of velocity right there.

Recommended way to slide a 3/16" tubing into a 1/4" barb?. I have plenty of 1/4" ID swivels and I have plenty of 5/16" ID swivels.

I use 3/16" tubing and 1/4" barbs. Use dry hands, and a bit of keg lube on the barbs. Lots of twisting back and forth if the going gets tough. It'll go on, you just have to want it bad enough.

What I do is screw the swivel nut on a QD with the same 1/4" npt threads, and use that to hold it while I push on the tubing. Otherwise it's too hard to hold the swivel nut.

I'll put the tube end in hot water for a few seconds before I do it to soften it and facilitate working its way on the barb.

Two thumbs up for IPS, I deal with these guys a lot for home brewing and for my job.

I have ordered with the m before and are great to deal with. I just measured their 1/4'' barbs that I have and they measure 3/16'' id and 1/4'' od.

I also do this.

For me, the extra security of the tighter fit on the barb is worth the extra work getting the line on the barb.

What about removal? I'll pump cleaning solution thru the tubing and taps to clean, but I want to remove the QD to clean it. Why? I've seen the mold inside a QD and don't believe or trust running cleaning solution thru the QD will properly and thoroughly clean it. If I'm wrong about the QD, please tell me so.

I understand about removing the swivel, but that means I'd need to connect to another QD to clean. Was hoping to simply use a stainless 2 sided barb between the beer line (with the QD removed) and the cleaning line.

How would that be any different if you had a 3/16" swivel nut? We went from using a 1/4" instead of a 3/16" swivel nut to...something else. What am I not seeing here?

The point of that post of mine was to describe how to easily get a 3/16" line on a 1/4" swivel nut. You simply put the swivel nut on a QD so you can easily hold it while you put the line on.

I have to say, if you're getting a lot of mold on your QDs, it seems like something else is wrong. I almost never replace mine.

Believe it's easier to put the tubing on and take the tubing off the 3/16" barb than fighting with a 1/4" barb.

Haven't had a keezer. Finishing up mine now. Do know, when I first began kegging back in 1996, using a picnic or cobra faucet, tubing and a QD, I'd disassemble everything and clean it when finished. However, I didn't totally disassemble the QD. Thought I was cleaning everything really good. Something told me to open the QD, completely disassemble the QD, and yuck found mold in the top of the QD. Want to avoid this problem when my keezer is up-and-running.

Sorry I tried to help. I won't waste your time next time.

Just use 1/4" like everyone is suggesting. It sucks to get it on the barb, but it's not meant to be put on and taken off regularly. When it does come time to take the hose off the barb, just cut off the last inch of the tubing with a razor knife, make a vertical cut up the barb, and remove it.

The tight fit on the 1/4 is a good thing, that's why a lot of people use that size.

There is no reason to take tubing off of the barbs. The whole point of connecting tubing to a QD via MFL/FFL is so that you can make and break the connection without "unbarbing". If you want to clean the QD, unscrew the top cap and dump the guts out into a dish (don't lose the top gasket). If you want to clean lines by pumping through, attach a ball lock keg post to your pump so you can just pop the QD on there.

There are a LOT of ways to clean lines but I don't think any of the good ways involved removing tubing from a hose barb.

Removing the hose from the barb is more likely to create places for potential infections in the tubing from the trauma of pulling out and replacing the barbs. Do the following:
it's not meant to be put on and taken off regularly. When it does come time to take the hose off the barb, just cut off the last inch of the tubing with a razor knife,
And you will be fine. The only time I remove the swivel/barb is when replacing the line itself.
