When I said it's not used for adding flavor, but if you want to be kind of technical it does... the guy who said yeast nutrient is probably closest, in that it can indirectly affect the flavor of the finished beer.

Actually, you made 4 guesses since I had last answered. There's no point in taking this game too seriously, but at least stick to the rules so it's fair for everyone.

I consider adjusting water chemistry to be the stuff added to water before it's used for mashing and sparging (because technically you could say everything changes water chemistry), so yeah, I'd agree that campden tabs count.

But it was guess #25 (#28 if you count the extra 3 that guy guessed). Since this game isn't called "25 Questions", I get to go again! :rockin:

You can probably now see how it is indirectly "added for flavoring". Although when all my answers were compiled into a list, the guy slightly changed the question to whether or not it's "used to add flavor", which it's not. Such a miniscule difference, it would be easy to think they're the same. Add that to the fact that he oversimplified my answer to "not really", and it just goes to show how important it is to summarize the answer accurately. :drunk:

And since you also guessed Campden tabs, I'm also assuming that you saw how the question of whether it's added to finished beer was an odd one. The beer is often still fermenting when it's added, so in that sense the answer is no. But it's added to STOP fermentation when the brewer hits the FG that he wants, and the beer will continue to remain pretty much the same as it was right before adding the K sorbate, so as far as the brewer is concerned, the beer IS finished. Basically, it straddles the line of "finished" and "unfinished", and which side of that line it falls on just depends on how you choose to look at it. :p

And now I have to go again, because you idiots are terrible at this game... and I'm really just messing with you, you're up! Unless you want me to choose another question that's so arbitrary and obscure that nobody'll *ever* be able to get it. ;)
 
Hah. It makes sense. I can't think of why anyone would want to use it in beer though. Although I was under the impression that it wouldn't actually halt fermentation, but prevent a second fermentation (allowing you to backsweeten or something like that). I suppose to safeguard against infection in beer? I'd think intentionally halting fermentation = bad very very bad plan. Guaranteeing acetaldehyde, diacetyl, etc. Either way...
