Hey guys, I know this has probably been touched on before here but has anyone thought of using 2-liter soda bottles filled with water and frozen, then sterilized to chill the wort faster? Might be the cat's pajamas to use with a cold water bath... Or one could sanitize the inside of a Ziploc and pour in cooled, boiled water and simply tear the bag away when it comes time to use the sanitized ice.

Before I Made A Wort Chiller, I Would Freeze A 10 Litre Jug Of Spring Water, Cut The Container With A Sterilized Knife, And Drop The Block Of Ice In My Fermenter Before Adding The Wort.
This Worked Ok, But The Temp Would Sometimes Be Too High Still.
Thats When The Copper Wort Chiller Was Made. I Used 50 Ft Of 3/8 Copper And Now Can Get 5 Galls Of Wort To 70 Degrees Within 10 Minutes. Note, Since Its January, My Tap Water Is Coming Out At 41 Degrees, So It Will Probably Take Longer In The Summer.

as i recall it was around $50.00, thats why i went to 3/8 copper as the 1/2" was way too much.
i get good flow and chill from the 3/8 so i am happy with it
