So tonight I got home from work and my 1st grade daughter was asking questions about September 11th, 2001. I am a recently retired Navy Chief... I was stumped on how to answer my child's questions...so I put her to bed and started brewing a cream all.

I got drunk during the process of making the cream ale...which is fermenting perfectly right now...now I am hung over and the questions still keep coming...I think I am going to load a YouTube video of the news coverage...they have parent planning day so no school!

For a first grader I would load up her favorite movie instead!

My first grader could do that. But she is more interested in planes crashing in to buildings

My now 7 Year old daughter asked a couple of years ago. I answered her honestly and as basically as possible. I told her that there are bad people in the world and that those bad people sometimes try to do things that hurt our country and kill our people. I left it there until she asks more. She never did. Now the recent executions by ISIS may bring it up again, but so far she hasn't mentioned it. We do try to not expose her to that sort of thing if we can.

I would answer her questions honestly, but avoid the gory details to the fullest extent her curiosity allows. Know that she has already probably asked her friends, so this is a chance for you to put a more adult perspective on it.

Either way it sucks to have to do it, but its gotta be done.

And thank you for your service!
