i am making AMERICAN WHEAT BEER from NB...i have the liquid yeast it came with.

can i just pitch the yeast into the primary once i have the temperature set to 70 degrees and all my water added?

or do i need to "smack" it for a day or two?

i am at work and wanted to brew it tonight but if i need to smack it i might not be able to brew...ughhhh

let me know

You can do it either way. I would probably smack it and let it inflate while you brew. But it doesn't really matter, honestly.

Part of what you get by buying a smack pack is an "insurance" that your yeast is active; so it is definetly not necessary.

WYeast specifically states:

Full swelling of Activator™ packages is not required for their use. The contents of Activator™ packages may be direct-pitched without prior activation. Our smack pack technology is intended to be a tool for your use in determining viability, and in initiating metabolism for faster starts to fermentation.

Good luck with the beer, it's one of the kits that I considered picking up for my dads first jump into homebrewing.

i dont even know how to smack it...they gave me 2 packs should i use both????

ill just smack it when i get home and that will be like 90 mins before i pitch...thanks for the help everyone
