After a long day of testing out the new equipment it's time to have a few beers and hope to h##$ every thing goes alright tomorrow. Couple things I could use a pointer on.

1. Three thermometers, POS that came with the fryer, floating and digital with probe. Test boil showed the digital at 230, floater and POS were pretty close to 212. Get a new digital or figure out how to use what I've got for the mash? Any suggestions on brand/type of digital?

2. Gravity feeding to the CFC I made last week. Test run was ok but anyone doing this that has any feedback please comment.

3. Turkey baster (sanitized of course) ok to use as a beer thief?

4. Aluminum pot only greyed or oxidized in a couple places during test boil. I let it go for close to an hour, anything to worry about here?

I think that covers it, I know tomorrow will be chaos, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get through it and have drinkable beer in the end.

Thanks for all the info everyone, this place is awesome!

I may be naive but I make up for that with inexperience!!:rockin:

Any suggestions on brand/type of digital?

I've got two of these...one in my MLT, and the other in my HLT. I'm real happy with them.

Good luck with your first brew, let us know how it goes. You're bound to make some mistakes, but don't sweat it...it will still be beer!

My advice, don't drink too many beers tonight. You'll want to be as clear headed as you can be tomorrow for your first all grain brew. It's easy to forget to do certain things(like sanitizing) when 100 different things are running through your head(and they will).
I gravity feed to my CFC with zero problems.
Turkey baster is fine for a thief(unless your taking a sample of really hot wort with a plastic baster, then it's not so good)
Aluminum pots are fine, and it should be good and seasoned after your hour long boil.
As for your thermometers, Good luck with that.
As BlindLemonLars said, it will still be beer. Good luck and happy brewing!!!

Best of luck on your first AG Brew Day. It sounds like you are prepared for a good one.

I actually did my first AG today. Now I'm at the point where I'm looking back to see if I did anything wrong or missed anything.

It was also my first outdoor brew session on a turkey fryer. I did the same as you, and conditioned it for about an hour last weekend.

Your turkey baster should be fine. Do yourself a favor though and pick up a wine thief. It's cheap and so worth it.

Again, best of luck tomorrow.

I'd just add: Write everything down before you start -- when you're going to add what (including the chiller), etc.

(You've probably already done that though. :))
