That's cool! An amber or lambic ale they said. To bad the sea water got in. Even more interesting is the fact that they said the hops in those days were harsher than now. I assume they mean they had a sharper edge to them? Another reason we'll never get very old recipes quite the same.
 
I had found another article somewhere that said they deconstructed the ingredients (able to tell what was sea water or not) and were able to tell what was in it. 👍
 
Seems to me there was another thread about this Baltic ship wreck a while back? Does sound familiar now that you mention it.
 
I "loved" how SNL made a joke about this in their Weekend Update. Basically the joke was they said the guys were a bunch of alcoholics for trying a beer that was 175 years old... I think it's really cool they were able to try it.
