I wouldn't use it for fermentation, sanke kegs are common enough for fermenting in. Since these are pretty hard to come across I'd suspect most people would use them for serving larger batches. These would save a lot of work for someone kegging that does 1bbl batches.

If fermenting, get two. I can see pressure fermenting in that and using a shortened tube that will push out the beer into another tank for drinking. Makes everything sanitary and easy and you can take gravity readings from a picnic line.
