My SG has stabilized, so I racked to secondary - only so I could free up my primary (from here on, I'll be doing mainly 1-stage...)

Anyway, my volume was a little low, probably 1/2 gallon or so, and I was concerned about headspace. So I added 2tsp sugar in 1/4 cup of sterilized water hoping to get the yeasts activated enough to displace some of the 0xygen. Even if it doesn't displace the entire volume, hopefully I'll have a blanket.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't have bothered. The point of a secondary is to clear the beer. You just started it up again by adding the sugar. Really no harm done, but since your beer has alcohol I wouldn't have worried about the head space. As long as your not shaking it, it will be fine.
