I just ordered a larger kettle and a better propane burner so my next batch of beer will be a 10 gallon batch :) The problem is I have two 6 gallon primary fermentation buckets and two 5 gallon secondaries, so I'll do my full 11 gallon boil, then split it into the 2 primaries. At this point how do I do the yeast? I plan to do a 2 liter starter, so should I just pour 1 liter in each?

How do you guys usually ferment 10 gallon batches?

I think I would make two identical starters, and pitch each in its own fermenter...

But, WTF do I know? ;)

for a 10 gallon batch you need twice the yeast that you would normally need for a 5 gallon batch. double check that with Mr. Malty. in that case yes you would split half the yeast between both fermenters.

Keep in mind, you'll need more time to get that starter ready if you're growing 2x the number of yeast.

I generally make 2 starters using 2 different (style appropriate) yeasts.

Makes comparing the influence yeast has very easy.
